How Grant Funding is Distributed

There are two types of funding you will receive from Gitcoin grants:

  1. 👤 Individual donations

These are donations that individual give to your grant. These donations automatically go to your wallet at the time of donation. In other words, these funds are never held by Gitcoin.

  1. 💲Matching funds

These are donations that you receive from the matching round you participate in. To learn more about how matching funds are determined (quadratic funding), you can watch this one-minute video. These donations do not automatically go to your wallet, they are being held by Gitcoin and must be claimed after the round ends.

How to Convert Individual Donations to Fiat

Some projects pay their developers and other team members directly with crypto. Others need to cash out all or some of the funds they receive into dollars or other forms of “fiat” currency.

Written steps for cashing out your individual donations in fiat are listed below. Ultimately, you will most likely need to convert all the tokens on Polygon and zkSync into one stable coin such as DAI or USDC and then bridge them back to the Ethereum Mainnet. From there you can send funds to an exchange to trade for fiat and then send to your bank account or exchange for cash at a crypto ATM.

Let’s start with where to find your individual donations.
