Introduction
As of March 2024, Gitcoin Grants Stack has successfully migrated from Allo v1 to Allo v2. During this transition, it is our top priority to continue to support Grants Managers currently using Grants Stack. This guide aims to assist Grants Managers in navigating the transition smoothly, ensuring minimal disruption to any existing workflows and processes.
Understanding the Transition
What is Allo v2?
Grants Stack is currently built on top of the Allo protocol, a set of smart contracts that enable the democratic allocation and distribution of capital, and Allo v2 is the latest version of the protocol. With the transition to Allo v2, we are excited to improve overall user experience, enable experimentation of modular and flexible funding mechanisms, and empower developers to easily contribute to the protocol to build new community funding experiences.
Key Dates & Considerations
As we transition from Allo v1 to v2, it is essential for Grants Managers to understand the key differences and functionalities between the two versions.
- Timeline:
- March 25th, 2024: Grants Stack Quadratic Funding is live on v2
- No new v1 rounds on QF will be able to be created
- You can still create Direct Grants rounds on v1
- TBA - COMING SOON
- Grants Stack Direct Grants live on v2
- v1 support across Grants Stack will be sunset
- Accessing Grants Stack on Allo v2: You will be able to access Allo v1 and v2 on the same URLs for Builder and Manager, where you’ll be able to switch between versions within the app or be automatically redirected to the version you need. For Explorer, https://explorer.gitcoin.co will default only show v2 rounds. To access and donate to v1 rounds, you can visit https://explorer-v1.gitcoin.co/.
- Functionality: While Grants Stack will continue to support existing projects and rounds on Allo v1 for a limited period of time, new features and functionalities will be introduced exclusively on Allo v2. It's crucial for Grants Managers to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of both versions. See the following section for what functionality you can expect will be available on v1 versus v2.

Builder — a guide for Grantees
- You can continue to access Builder at: builder.gitcoin.co. Within the app, you’ll have the option to use Builder on v1 or v2, depending on your needs.
- When using Builder on v1, you will be able to make the following changes:
- Create new projects on v1
- Edit existing projects on v1
- Apply to rounds on v1 with v1 projects
- Note: only v1 projects can be used to apply to v1 rounds. If a grantee only has v2 projects, they will need to create a new project on v1 to apply.
